WORK

CONTRIBUTING EDITOR

NEW YORK YIMBY

As a contributing editor for New York YIMBY, I am responsible for copy editing all of the content published on the news site, which covers architecture, construction, and real estate in the Five Boroughs from a pro-growth perspective. I also occasionally report on news for the site.

March 2019–Present

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

FUTURE US

April 2018–July 2021

As editor in chief of AV Technology magazine—a leading resource for AV and IT end users and tech managers—I was responsible for overseeing all editorial aspects of the publication, both online and for 10 print issues per year, each with a circulation of 15,000.

On the print side, my duties involved rigorous editorial planning and assignment creation, managing a team of contributing writers to meet publishing deadlines, and thoroughly editing the magazine's copy and page layout in Adobe InDesign to meet my exacting standards.

On the digital side, I was responsible for writing and editing industry news and features and assembling a daily newsletter with a distribution of roughly 20,000.

I also assisted in the organization and direction of the publication's live event series, AV/IT Summit, which is held at various locations throughout the U.S., and I served as a reporter and copyeditor for the official daily newspaper for multiple major trade shows, including InfoComm, CEDIA Expo, and International CES.

My position was eliminated on July 16, 2021, as the publisher decided to shift the brand's approach away from editorial to focus on events and content marketing.

SENIOR EDITOR

NEWBAY MEDIA

October 2016–March 2018

As a senior editor, I reported on news and trends, and wrote a series of weekly features with a digital-first focus for prominent pro AV and home technology publications, Systems Contractor News and Residential Systems; oversaw the digital editor's daily publication of e-news and electronic newsletters; assisted in copy editing and production of monthly print publications; and reported and edited for daily show publications at major industry trade events.

In addition, I directly led the publication of the August 2017 issue of Systems Contractor News, following the resignation of the previous editor. This involved coordinating with contributing writers; making editorial decisions regarding the cover art, layout, and selection of industry news bulletins; coordinating with the art team; writing the editor's letter; and thoroughly copy editing the entire publication and issuing editorial approval at the print deadline.

I left the role to take over the position of editor-in-chief of sister publication AV Technology at the same time NewBay Media was acquired by Future Publishing.

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

NEWBAY MEDIA

February 2015–September 2016

I served as a news editor and writer for two prominent audiovisual industry trade magazines, Systems Contractor News and Residential Systems. I was responsible for reporting and writing features, copy editing, and digital/web posting and editing, as well as reporting, writing, and editing for the daily show publications at major industry trade events.

I was promoted to the role of senior editor in the fall of 2016.

CASE WRITER

JENSEN & JENSEN, ATTORNEYS AT LAW

October 2012–July 2013

I worked with clients to prepare cases and draft supporting letters for green card and three-year visa applications for aliens of extraordinary ability in the arts and sciences, multinational executives, and foreign treaty investors.

With no education in law or business, I had to learn many technical aspects of both on my own to ensure the successful approval of the applications.

I left in the summer of 2013 to enroll as a full-time graduate student at Columbia Journalism School.

PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSOCIATE

THE BERMAN GROUP

My duties included drafting press releases, blog postings, newsletters, and web content for clients in the fields of construction, commercial real estate, and legal administration; managing clients' social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; managing membership of two large real estate organizations; and drafting email blasts and providing auxiliary support for special events.
